Apparently, they got Wal-Mart’s attention. In the past two weeks, Wal-Mart responded predictably by firing 10 of the protesters and disciplining another 25. Unbelievable.
The workers are fighting back, and hard. They held a sit-in at Yahoo headquarters, where Wal-Mart board member Marissa Mayer is CEO. Three members of the group OUR Walmart and two protesters were arrested for standing up for their rights.
Not only is this a major assault on Wal-Mart workers, it’s an attempt to suppress the fundamental right to come together and speak out for a better future.
We have to act quickly and publicly to make sure Wal-Mart’s directors can’t sit by quietly as the company fires or disciplines even one more employee for speaking out against unfair labor practices.
Across the country, Wal-Mart workers will be taking dramatic action. Let’s show them we’re all standing behind them. Send the board a message now.
